Pirates
Dates used: 1953 - 1969
Inside of helmet: foam padding which had deteriorated Manufacturer: American Baseball Cap, Inc. Logo: real sticker (paper-like) Thoughts: I'm guessing that this helmets ranks right up there with the Indians helmet as the oldest that I own. I lay my claim to that on this helmet as it has a sticker inside it that says Forbes Field. It is the only helmet that I have with a sticker like that. |
Dates used: 1953 - 1969
Inside of helmet: Adjustrap Manufacturer: Sports Product Corp, A Subsidiary of Laich Logo: screen printed Thoughts: Boy, I sure wish the Dodgers would have kept hold of a guy named Roberto Clemente. This logo is not the true "P" style, but it is the one produced the most in the early 70's through 90's. |
Dates used: ????
Inside of helmet: Adjustrap Manufacturer: Sports Product Corp, A Subsidiary of Laich Logo: real sticker Thoughts: I have now idea if the Pirates ever wore a helmet like this. The sticker and the Adjustrap dates this helmet around 1969 give or take a few years. This is the only helmet like this that I have ever seen. Very rare! |
Dates used: Never
Inside of helmet: Adjustrap Manufacturer: Me, literally Logo: screen printed Thoughts: I just took one of my older Pirates helmets and finally got some rings on it. This was my third attempt. Not the greatest, but it will do. The Pirates wore hats like this, but never a helmet...as far as I know. |
Dates used: 1987 - Present
Inside of helmet: Adjustrap Manufacturer: Sports Product Corp, A Subsidiary of Laich Logo: screen printed Thoughts: The all black cap returned in the 1987 season and is still used today. The only thing I'm not for sure of is if this is also when they changed the style of the "P" to a bigger size. |
